Joe Alexander Takes on the World’s Biggest Triathlon
In a feat of endurance, skill, and sheer determination, Joe Alexander, the founder of Alexander Adventures, is setting out to complete what may well be the most grueling triathlon ever attempted. This extraordinary challenge will see him climb the twin peaks of Everest and Lhotse, tackle some of the world’s most dangerous white-water rapids, and embark on a high-altitude mountain bike back down the valley.
Leg 1: BTS27
Conquering Everest and Lhotse
Joe’s journey begins in the Himalayas, where he will scale Mount Everest (8,849m), the highest peak on Earth. But reaching the top of the world is only the start. From the summit of Everest, he will traverse to Lhotse (8,516m), its towering neighbour. This back-to-back climb of two 8,000-meter peaks in a single push demands not only extreme physical endurance but also expert mountaineering skills and split-second decision-making.
Leg 2: BTS27
Mountain Biking to Kathmandu
The second leg of the triathlon will take Joe on an exhilarating mountain biking journey from Lukla down the valley toward the Sun Kosi River. This rugged, high-altitude trail is packed with steep descents, treacherous terrain, and narrow paths, demanding both technical skill and unwavering endurance. As he navigates the challenging route, Joe will battle thin air and unpredictable weather, making this section a true test of resilience and determination before moving on to the final stage of the triathlon.
Leg 3: BTS27
Kayaking Grade 5+ Meltwater Rapids
Descending from the peaks, Joe will leave the mountains behind and take on a new challenge: kayaking the mighty Sun Kosi River. Fed by the icy meltwater of Everest’s glaciers, the Sun Kosi boasts some of the planet’s most ferocious rapids. Tackling Grade 5+ white-water conditions demands razor-sharp focus, advanced paddling skills, and an unshakable nerve. This phase will push Joe to his limits, testing his resilience and skill against the raw, untamed power of nature.
